History

Sències is the project of a family that for generations has been connected to the land. That is why we maintain the legacy of traditional farmhouses. We continue with the ancient tradition of taking care of the landscape, of cultivating the land with respect and of combining agriculture with livestock. This is our way of keeping our ancestors’ wisdom alive with their vision of life as a circular cycle, maximizing the cooperation with the natural element and minimizing the impact.

We call it doing cultura de terra, “Earth culture”.

Can Girona - Sitges

It is one of Sitges’ last farms so close to the sea with the traditional Mediterranean landscape: vineyards, cypresses, gardens and the Mediterranean forest. A centenary pinetree we call Old Grandad, L’Avi Savi in Catalan, is a source of inspiration for our doing.

Can Pous - Abrera

This is the dairy farm closest to the city of Barcelona, and forest and fields surround it. That’s where we grow the crops for our cows’ feed, creating a balanced cycle between land and cattle.

Can Massana - Masquefa

The traditional landscape of vineyards and fields surrounds our family farm, ruled by the cycle of grape harvest. Today we grow certified organic.

Farming activity. Our commitment to sustainability

Organic agriculture

Both in Masquefa and in Sitges we farm 100% certified organic both in the vegetable gardens and in the crop fields for animal consumption. In Sitges we have opened a store inside the farm where we sell our products and those of other organic farmers to foster local economy.

Livestock respectful with animals

We guarantee a high level of animal welfare with a semi-extensive dairy farm. This means the cows graze in the fields and each one of them has 40m2 to rest (the conventional farms have 6-15 m2.) We cultivate the feeding for the cows in a 70% in our fields in a sustainable way. Thus we get a high quality milk.

Responsible forest management

We maintain the forest with sustainable management and actively participate in projects of environmental responsibility to promote biodiversity. These include the agreement with the Council of Girona to preserve a reserve of mature forest in Arbúcies and Albanyà, and the LifeMixForChange Project for the study of the impact / adaptation of climate change on forests and biodiversity.
